Welcome to This Memoir Will Be Written by Robots. It is my (ridiculous yet plausible) imagined memoir from the year 2028 exploring what the world might become with the onslaught of artificial intelligence and virtual reality.
Told in the form of a graphic novel, this story is comprised of prose written by me and images created by a mixture of AI, photography, and photoshop. I am creating this graphic novel in real time each week, knowing that AI is progressing at such a rapid pace that soon I will not need photography or photoshop. Just AI. You will see the advancements in sophistication and intelligence here first hand.
This project was first inspired by the news that AI can now write novels. Next, Hollywood writers went on strike to, among other things, "ban the use of AI for writing and rewriting any source material, as well as its use as a source material of its own." I was also heavily influenced by the upcoming release of the Apple Vision Pro and the 2022 AI art piece Unsupervised by Refik Anadol at MOMA.
I look forward to this piece being a living conversation with other artists and creators about the nature of art in these bewildering times. I also hope it makes you laugh.
Best,
