Hi, all. I am overdue on sending you the next chapter of the graphic novel. If you follow my other Substack, Escape Hatch France, you will know that my husband and I are leaving very soon to spend 5 months in France. I have a long to-do list, but that is not the only reason I don’t have a new chapter today.
I have been experimenting with new software which is going to take my graphic novel to another level, but it is also going to take a little more time to figure out how to do what I am envisioning.
The app I am playing with is called DreamFace and I’m having a blast with it. It allows you to upload pictures, use an AI filter, and then give that avatar some dialogue or a song or whatever.
I used this selfie for the first two videos I made (I liked how well lit it is).
When you click on the video below it will open your browser, where you can watch all these videos. I PROMISE they are worth it.
It’s Britney, bitch.
Next, I uploaded a picture of myself from Kindergarten.
YIKES! That is a little terrifying.
I could have kept doing this type of nonsense all day, but I decided it was time to figure out how I might use the software for the graphic novel. I started with this photo:
For the first experiment I gave the photo a “drawing” filter and then recorded my own dialogue.
Wild, right? Here it is in a flatter drawing style.
This is the “claymation” filter.
You can see how one could get lost down this rabbit hole for days, and let’s be honest, it’s more fascinating to use you own face, so I totally recommend playing around.
Here is an example of Roberto based on a photo and using his actual voice.
And this is the “Pixar” filter using one of their voice simulators:
I think that Pixar one is VERY impressive.
Finally, here is a little sample of what I have in mind for the graphic novel.
I think it is the next step in using AI to turn the whole thing into an animated film.
If you explore this software yourself, please share some of the results with me!
